The Department of Education’s K–12 (also known as K–12) educational program aims to improve students’ fundamental skills, equip graduates for lifelong learning and employment, and produce competent individuals. “K” stands for Kindergarten, and “12” refers to the following 12 years of basic education. The 12 years comprises of 6 years for elementary school, 4 years for junior high school for and 2 years for senior high school.

IUCS offers a clear 12-year curriculum that provides pupils enough time to learn skills and assimilate fundamental competences and prepare them for tertiary education. The new curriculum offers three tracks for pupils to choose from: academic, technical-vocational-livelihood, and sports and arts strand.

IUCS aims to produce graduates who have the following characteristics:

  • 21ST CENTURY SKILLS COMPETENCIES

Students will be equipped with higher level thinking skills (critical-thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving). The curriculum aspires to raise pupils’ competency in Math, Science, and Linguistic aptitude for global competitiveness.

 

  • HOLISTICALLY DEVELOPED INDIVIDUALS

A someone who has not only developed academically but also physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually and spiritually. A student who display a constant enthusiasm to learn.

 

  • GEARED TOWARDS EMPLOYMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

K to 12 offers more opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. The program provides opportunities to the students to undergo immersions, have relevant exposure to a variety of industries, and to have experience in their chosen track. After receiving their diplomas and passing competency-based exams, graduates of the new system can start looking for employment right away.
